Turning wallpaper dreams into reality

My last post was about how real it's all becoming - including some light online vanity shopping.

Then Black Friday struck and stuff got really really real. These are the big sales! There may be more around the corner, but who wants to wait for President's Day, or Memorial Day, with the supply chain being what it is at the moment?  Especially not now we have walls to paper - well, almost. Once the windows are in and the drywall is up we will.

Also honestly I've been ordering samples and looking at pictures and daydreaming and price comparing wallpaper for almost two years now and at this point I just want to stop thinking about it and know that the decision is made.

This is the tip of the iceberg of wallpaper samples which I have now bequeathed to Penelope's craft supplies. It represents months of contemplation. In 'man days', it's a very expensive strategy engagement. Time to act.

So I went ahead and hit the Black Friday sales. Hard and all at once. I ordered William Morris 'Seasons by May' for the powder room, a choice I feel was etched on my heart. A grasscloth for the dining room and the guest room. A sweet nod to Yorkshire for my laundry room and the powder room on the roof. A navy grasscloth for our master which Ash worries might be too dark but I think is moody grown-up perfection, especially with the lush blue palms peeking out from our walk-in-closet. A sumptuous and whimsical watercolour koi print for the loo in our bathroom. Finally, I agonized over and then ordered a very expensive House of Hackney botanical print for my office and I love it so don't judge me.

When I started thinking about wallpaper I had decided I wanted to go with a botanical theme. Our courtyard is so small and my ideal home involves a large rambling garden so I had this idea of trying to make the house feel more, well, botanical. Now I look at them I realize they aren't really on theme, unless the theme is British with a taste of the tropics. Heigh ho, it was just a jumping off point I guess. I had a great time playing around with the idea, and a great time buying the final selection. Wallpaper is fun, on theme or not.

It turns out, of course, I didn't need to order it quite so soon. They arrived the following week, a full five or six months before we'll hang them. Still, now they're bought and the decisions are made I can turn my attention to sofas and paint. Good times.
